eBay Names Chris Corrado Senior Vice President And Corporate Chief Technology Officer

    Business Editors/E-Commerce Writers/Technology Editors

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2005--eBay, the World's Online Marketplace (Nasdaq:EBAY)(www.ebay.com), today announced that Chris Corrado has joined the company as Senior Vice President and Corporate Chief Technology Officer. Corrado, who will report to Chief Operating Officer Maynard Webb, brings more than 20 years of experience to the position.
In his new role, Corrado will assume responsibility for a technology organization that has built and maintained one of the largest electronic transaction platforms ever developed. He will manage eBay's site operations, information technology, and security.
"Chris is one of the leading technology platform experts in the corporate world, and we are thrilled that he is joining us," said Webb. "It is testament to the tremendous reputation of the eBay technology organization that we were able to bring Chris to the team."
Corrado comes to eBay from AT&T Wireless, where he was Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President. While at AT&T Wireless, he oversaw the alignment of the company's technical infrastructure with its business strategy. Prior to joining AT&T Wireless, Corrado was the head of the Security Solutions Practice at Wipro Technologies. He has also held executive level positions at Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, and Morgan Stanley & Co.
Corrado will replace Marty Abbott, Senior Vice President of Technology at eBay. Abbott has chosen to leave eBay after more than five years, during which he led the growth of eBay site operations to world-class levels. Abbott and Corrado will work together over the next several months to ensure a smooth transition.
Abbott joined eBay as Director of Operations in October 1999. Together with the technology team, he rebuilt the eBay platform using a distributed architecture approach that has resulted in uptime of greater than 99.9% and exceptional cost leverage. Abbott also drove significant improvements in quality assurance and data security capabilities.
"Marty came to eBay shortly after the site outages in 1999 and has led every major system improvement since that time," said Webb. "Today eBay's platform architecture is a core strength of our company. We are enormously grateful for Marty's efforts and wish him the very best for the future."
