CompuDyne's Public Safety and Justice Unit, Tiburon, Signs $2.5 Million Contract with King County, WA

    Business Editors/Technology Editors

ANNAPOLIS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 2005--CompuDyne Corporation (NASDAQ:CDCY), an industry leader in sophisticated security products, integration and technology for the public security markets, announced today that it signed a contract to automate another major US public safety communication center. Tiburon has signed a $2.5 million contract with King County, Washington, previously announced in our December Awards press release, to provide a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and Mobile Dispatch System (MDS) to support the County's law enforcement operations. CompuDyne's Public Safety & Justice unit, Tiburon, is an industry-leading provider of automated public safety and justice systems which meet the demanding and complex needs of law enforcement, fire & rescue, corrections and justice environments.
Serving the County surrounding the greater Seattle metropolitan area, the new system will allow dispatchers to respond to and manage 9-1-1 calls more efficiently. "We are excited to begin working with Tiburon on this important project," says Ken Rhodes, Technical Support Supervisor for the King County Sheriff's Office. "We need a reliable dispatch system operating on a technologically advanced architecture to meet the increasing needs of the Sheriff's Office and its customer agencies."
Tiburon's CAD system operates on fully distributed Microsoft Windows(R) workstations, providing server-independent processing of all critical CAD functions and a reliable configuration approaching 100% system availability. Tiburon's distributed solution effectively places a complete desktop CAD system in front of every user and provides automatic and efficient synchronization for each workstation. If any component fails, the system continues to function. Tiburon has successfully deployed this unique system architecture in several city, county, and state-wide public safety communication centers across the country.
Part of Tiburon's total solution is a comprehensive mobile communications component that includes mobile mapping and automatic vehicle location for all units. When a call for service is dispatched from the communications center to a mobile unit, an icon appears on the mobile map highlighting the location of the incident, surrounding incidents and units in the area. Devices installed in the vehicles track the exact location of the vehicle and assist in determining the shortest route to the incident.
The new system will be installed in a new state-of-the-art facility, which houses the County's 911 center and Office of Emergency Management.
