Brent Colbert of Blythe Visits the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History

NEW YORK, Sept. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Brent Colbert of Blythe recently traveled to the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque, New Mexico to see some exhibits and programs he was interested in. Brent Colbert of Blythe found his visit interesting and informative and left with an even greater understanding of America's nuclear science history.

The museum was originally founded in 1969 at Kirtland Air Force Base and is currently located on Eubank Boulevard in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The museum is affiliated with the renowned Smithsonian Institution and is financially supported by the National Atomic Museum Foundation.

Brent Colbert of Blythe is currently a Plant General Manager for Florida Power and Light and has worked in the past with multiple nuclear, energy, and power companies. Among Brent Colbert of Blythe's career duties have been the supervising of a 165 MW nuclear powered steam plant for the United States Navy. Brent Colbert of Blythe trained at the United States Navy Nuclear Power School prior to that. Because of his background he was quite interested in traveling to the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History to see the exhibits and programs he had heard so much about. "Just being around nuclear powered machinery for so many years has sparked an interest in me," said Brent Colbert of Blythe. "I've thought about coming to the museum for so long; I finally just decided there was no better time than now."

Among the permanent exhibits Brent Colbert of Blythe saw were 'Chronology of Nuclear History,' 'They Built the Bomb,' 'The Decision to Drop,' and 'Power Up.' "I especially enjoyed the Power Up exhibit because I was so familiar with a lot of the material," said Brent Colbert of Blythe. The 'Power Up' exhibit contains a history of nuclear reactors (including the engineering principles behind the reactors), a model of the first nuclear-powered merchant ship the NS Savannah, and informative displays on alternate energy-producing approaches. Brent Colbert of Blythe spent the majority of his time at this exhibit, even finding opportunities to further explain the exhibits to less versed museum patrons.

Brent Colbert of Blythe noted that a good time for first timers to visit the museum would be in October during the National Nuclear Science Week. "The week is really just an opportunity for everyone, students, teachers, employers, to become more familiar with the way nuclear science affects our country. Most people would be surprised when they learn how many different things are the result of nuclear power and energy," Brent Colbert of Blythe said. The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History teams up each year with the National Nuclear Science Week in hopes of combining resources and reaching out to the public.

"I had such a great time on my visit to the museum, it's really a unique place," said Brent Colbert of Blythe. "I may have even learned a thing or two I can take back and apply to my job." That is saying something, since Brent Colbert of Blythe has been involved with nuclear power since the late 1980's.
