Balfour Beatty Construction Announces Retirement of Robert Hambright, Names John Woodcock President of Carolinas Division

Balfour Beatty Construction U.S. today announced that Robert B. Hambright will retire as chief executive officer of the company’s Southeast Division effective March 31, 2010. The company also announced that it has named John F. Woodcock president of the Charlotte-based operations, renamed the Carolinas Division, effective Feb. 22, 2010.

Mr. Woodcock will become the top executive for the Carolinas Division, reporting directly to Al Petrangeli, chief executive officer for the Balfour Beatty Construction’s Southeast Region, which also includes the company’s Florida, Georgia and Military Housing divisions. With more than 300 employees, 2009 revenues of $529 million and offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro, the Carolinas Division serves a diverse mix of private- and public-sector clients including Bank of America, Duke Energy, the University of North Carolina system, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and Mecklenburg County.

"John has been a key contributor to the growth of the Southeast Division over the past six years, and his command of operations, marketing and strategy development, coupled with his strengths in finance, make him the ideal choice to lead the Carolinas Division,” said Mr. Hambright. "I am confident that John will implement the vision of our new Southeast Region organization and deliver enhanced service to our clients throughout the region while providing greater opportunities for our employees.”

Mr. Woodcock joined Balfour Beatty Construction in 2004 and most recently served as division chief financial officer and senior vice president of the Southeast Region. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty, Mr. Woodcock worked in the construction industry for a large construction conglomerate where he held the positions of vice president-finance and accounting, strategic development director and manager of project finance.

A 19-year resident of the Charlotte region, Mr. Woodcock is active in the community, serving in a board role or as a significant contributor to several organizations, including the Charlotte City Ballet Company, the Arts & Science Council, the East Mecklenburg Education Foundation, and the McClintock Partners in Education Foundation. Supporting the communities it serves through charitable donations and volunteer service is a cornerstone value of Balfour Beatty Construction; last year, the Carolinas Division contributed $830,000 in charitable and philanthropic donations.

Mr. Woodcock, holds an MBA from Indiana University and a BA from Wake Forest University.

Mr. Hambright joined Balfour Beatty Construction in 2001 to found the company’s Southeast Division in Charlotte and has served in his current role as CEO of the Southeast Division since then. During a career spanning 40 years, Mr. Hambright held a variety of positions from project engineer to president of one of the nation’s largest construction companies prior to joining Balfour Beatty Construction. He will remain actively engaged with Balfour Beatty in a consulting role for leadership development, client relationships and organizational strategy, the three areas of professional involvement about which he is most passionate.

"Balfour Beatty Construction has experienced tremendous growth in the Southeast commercial market and in the U.S. Privatized Military Family Housing market under Bob’s leadership,” said Mr. Petrangeli. "We are indebted to him for his contributions, not only at the division level but as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, and will continue to seek his counsel on matters related to the future growth and direction of the entire company.”
