Assisi Animal Health Lists Four Common Health Problems in Pets During the Winter
PINEHURST, N.C., Dec. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Assisi Animal Health developed the Assisi Loop®, an effective non-pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory device (NPAID®) that works as a PEMF therapy for animals. The Loop helps heal wounds and relieve pain in cats, dogs, and horses. Assisi lists four common health problems in pet during the winter.
Antifreeze. Antifreeze is highly toxic to pets. Unfortunately, its sweet smell attracts dogs and cats. It is rapidly absorbed and has a high mortality rate. If your pet has ingested antifreeze, it may vomit, stumble, or exhibit symptoms of depression. If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze, take it to the vet immediately. Make sure you keep your antifreeze out of your pet's reach.
Arthritis. The colder temperatures combined with damp weather, exacerbates arthritis in your pets. Although it can appear in puppies and kittens, it is more common in middle-aged and elderly pets. Pets who have fractured a bone may be more susceptible to arthritis after the fracture has healed. There are many treatments available for arthritis. If your vet recommends pain medication, ask how the Assisi Loop can help. It has been proven to alleviate both chronic and acute pain.
Paw issues. Make sure to check your pet's paws often for signs of injury or damage due to the colder temperatures, cracked or bleeding paw pads is a common injury in winter. Ice can accumulate between their toes. Clip the hair between the toes to reduce the chance of ice balls forming. You can also apply a balm to the paws after your pet is outside.
Shivering/cold pet. If your pet has a short coat or simply does not like winter weather, consider buying a sweater or coat. Make sure you use a dry one each time. A wet sweater or coat can make your pet even colder. Booties are also a useful winter accessory.
