(RTTNews) - Grain processor Archer Daniels Midland Co.(ADM) reported first-quarter net earnings of $493 million or $0.77 per share, compared to $267 million or $0.40 per share in the prior-year quarter.

Excluding certain items, adjusted net earnings for the quarter was $0.77 per share, up from $0.55 per share in the year-ago quarter. On average, 13 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.71 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues for the quarter declined to $17.51 billion from $20.70 billion in the comparable quarter last year, while 10 analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $20.58 billion.
