Allegiant Kills Akron-Canton Flights

(RTTNews) - Allegiant Air said it is moving operations from Akron-Canton Airport to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, thereby doubling the leisure carrier's presence in northeast Ohio. The company will cease operations at Akron-Canton on February 15, 2017.

The low-cost carrier will also offer area travelers four new nonstop routes from Cleveland to vacation destinations this winter. To celebrate its expansion in northeast Ohio, the Las Vegas-based airline is offering one-way fares on the new routes for as low as $39.

Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer said, "This move to Cleveland will allow Allegiant to have a stronger presence in northeast Ohio and allow us to offer our low fares and convenient travel to even more travelers."

Allegiant's flights will move from Akron-Canton Airport to Cleveland on February 15. Passengers with existing reservations on or after February 15 from Akron-Canton can be re-accommodated from Cleveland or receive a full refund, Allegiant said.

Service moving from Akron-Canton to Cleveland include non-stop flights to Tampa Bay via the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport beginning February 15.

In addition, Allegiant's existing flights from Akron-Canton to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Punta Gorda/Fort Myers and Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport will originate instead in Cleveland from February 16.

The seasonal service to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina via the Myrtle Beach International Airport will start from Cleveland on April 13.

Allegiant's new service coming to Cleveland include non-stop flights to Jacksonville, Florida from February 16; Austin, Texas via the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, starting February 17; and New Orleans via the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport from February 17.

The seasonal service to Phoenix from Cleveland via the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport will begin on February 17 and end on May 15.
