Affymetrix Profit Tops Estimates

(RTTNews) - Affymetrix Inc (AFFX), a provider of life science tools and molecular diagnostic products, on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net earnings of $5.2 million or $0.05 per share compared with $9.4 million or $0.10 per share last year.

Results for the prior-year quarter included $9.3 million gain from the sale of a product line.

Excluding items, adjusted earnings for the quarter were $0.09 per share compared with $0.02 per share a year ago.

Revenues for the quarter were $93.5 million compared with $92.6 million in the prior year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.07 per share on revenues of $91.78 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Gross margin for the quarter improved to 63% from 59% last year.
