ACS' Healthcare Solutions Transformational Outsourcing Services Help Bay Medical Center Achieve Top Performance Measures
DALLAS, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., , a premier provider of business process and information technology outsourcing solutions, announced today that Bay Medical Center, one of ACS Healthcare Solutions' full-scale information technology (IT) outsourcing clients, has achieved the distinction of being named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals on Solucient's 12th annual list.
In 2002, Bay Medical Center contracted with Superior Consultant Holdings Corporation, now ACS Healthcare Solutions, which has provided the Panama City, Florida-based medical center with a total, comprehensive outsourcing solution. Those services include application services, data center services, 24X7X365 help desk services, desktop and network services, and telecommunications. Since beginning the partnership, ACS Healthcare Solutions has worked with Bay Medical Center to transform these operations, which have led to a significant financial turnaround for the hospital.
"We recognized three years ago that moving to the 'next level' would require a significant upgrade in the delivery of information to our care providers," said Steve Johnson, Bay Medical's Chief Executive Officer. "The decision to outsource our information technology was time-consuming, thoughtful, and deliberate. Clearly, the ability to upgrade our technology, implement Web-based informatics to our physicians-in their offices and at their homes-and begin the journey to implement a clinical information system, were major contributing factors to our Top 100 status."
Dan Morgan, Bay Medical Center's Chief Financial Officer said: "In 2002, Bay Medical made a difficult decision to outsource its information technology services, and our subsequent decision to select ACS has, over time, made that decision extremely rewarding. The decision has had numerous and far-reaching impact including such items as tech refresh, single sign-on, biometrics, physician portal, and soon clinical information systems. While there are many reasons and individuals involved in Bay Medical being selected as a Solucient Top 100 hospital, our outstanding partnership with ACS was certainly one of the keys."
To decide which hospitals make the list, Solucient, an Evanston, Illinois- based healthcare information company, compares hospitals within a class-based on size and teaching status-using nine clinical, financial and operating- efficiency measures, including mortality and infection rates, average length of stay, operating profit margins, and expenses per discharge. As a group, the hospitals that made the Top 100 list outperformed their peers on all nine measures.
Tom Bialorucki, Bay Medical Center's Chief Information Officer and Vice President for ACS Healthcare Solutions, said: "Bay Medical Center has been an excellent partner. ACS Healthcare Solutions has worked hand-in-hand with the hospital's user community to bring order and discipline to the business of delivering healthcare to patients. As a team, our focus was on improving the overall performance of the hospital. With each IT-related initiative, we applied creativity, leveraging the best available human and technical resources to deliver improved financial, operational, and clinical performance focused on very specific and measurable value-added results. ACS' staff feels privileged to have played a part in Bay Medical Center's well-deserved designation as a Top 100 Hospital and congratulates the organization on this recognition."
