A&P Opens New Superfresh Store in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties Neighborhood

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (A&P, OTC: GAPTQ) today officially opens its brand-new Superfresh store at North 2^nd Street and West Girard Avenue in Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties neighborhood. Mayor Michael A. Nutter and other community leaders will join A&P’s President and CEO Sam Martin and Superfresh Associates in a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a day filled with fun festivities for customers.

The 51,000 square foot neighborhood store offers residents in Northern Liberties and the surrounding community a full range of fresh and healthy foods, quality grocery items and gourmet offerings. Highlights include an expanded selection of locally grown produce, meat, poultry and seafood; a fresh, in-store sushi bar; delicious, freshly prepared favorites across its hot food, antipasto, olive, soup, salad and wing bars; grab-and-go meals of many varieties; expanded international offerings; and a full-service pharmacy. The store also will offer delivery service to customers, within two hours of their purchases.

The Northern Liberties Superfresh is A&P’s first new store in Pennsylvania in more than 10 years. The store will bring nearly 120 new jobs to the community.

• Fresh, Local Seafood – The Northern Liberties Superfresh features a wide variety of the highest-quality catches fresh off the boat with daily deliveries from the Philadelphia Fish Market.
• Local, Sustainably Raised Poultry and Beef – A&P’s exclusive Mid-Atlantic Country Farms brand features antibiotic-free chicken raised by local farmers, as well as beef products raised on more than 140 family-owned farms in Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
• Woodson & James Beef – Superfresh customers can also purchase the Company’s exclusive line of USDA Choice Angus Beef, which offers delicious steakhouse-quality beef at a great value.
• Fresh, Local Produce – Superfresh offers an expanded assortment of locally grown produce, fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, and over 75 organic and all-natural produce items. The discerning cook will also find a wide variety of fresh herbs and the best selection of mushrooms.

Grand Opening Activities

Mayor Nutter will join A&P CEO Sam Martin, Councilman Darrell Clarke, leaders from the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776, and developer Bart Blatstein in a ribbon- and cake-cutting ceremony to kick off a day filled with festivities celebrating the store opening.

Local residents are invited to try free food samples throughout the day and to get an up-close look at A&P’s 1926 Ford Model A delivery truck.

Also, A&P’s very own Chef Michael Grieb will offer cooking demonstrations, and A&P’s registered dietician Jacqueline Gomes will provide healthy eating tips.
