U.S. Construction Spending Unexpectedly Shows Steep Drop In June

(RTTNews) - With spending on public construction showing a substantial decrease, the Commerce Department released a report on Friday showing that U.S. construction spending unexpectedly saw a sharp drop in the month of June.

The report said construction spending tumbled by 1.8 percent to an annual rate of $950.2 billion in June after climbing by 0.8 percent to the revised May estimate of $967.8 billion.

Economists had been expecting spending to increase by about 0.5 percent compared to the 0.1 percent uptick originally reported for the previous month.
