Mexico Consumer Confidence Unexpectedly Improves For Second Month

(RTTNews) - Mexico's consumer confidence strengthened for a second straight month in October to a three-month high, defying expectations for a weakening, survey data from the statistical office INEGI showed Friday.

The consumer confidence index climbed to 91.3 from 90.6 in September. Economists had expected the measure to drop to 90.

The latest score is the highest since July, when the confidence reading was 92.2.

Consumers' view on their current personal economic situation improved for the first time in three months, with the index rising to 98.7 from a seven-month low of 97.7.

Their assessment of their economic situation in 12 months times also improved after weakening in the previous three months. The index rose to 98.2 from 98.0.

Households were also less pessimistic regarding the current and future economic situation of the country. However, they were remained less inclined to make big-ticket purchases for a second straight month.
