Mauritius Inflation Stabilizes At 3.6 Percent

(RTTNews) - Consumer price inflation in Mauritius remained unchanged for the sixth successive month in July, data released by Statistics Mauritius showed Tuesday.

Headline inflation for the twelve months ending July, as per the consumer price index, stayed unchanged at 3.6 percent for the six month in a row. The inflation rate for the month, the growth in prices from July 2012, was also 3.6 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices moved up 0.2 percent in July, after rising 0.1 percent in the previous month.

The monthly growth was driven mainly by a 0.7 percent gain in prices of apparels, and a 0.5 percent gain in costs of furnishings, household equipment and household maintenance. There was a 3.4 percent rise in expenses for recreation and cultural activities.

These gains were partially offset by a 0.2 percent decrease in food and non-alcoholic beverages prices, and a similar fall in transportation costs, data showed.
