Italy's Inflation Slows In May
(RTTNews) - Italy's harmonized consumer price inflation slowed unexpectedly in May, preliminary estimate from the statistical office Istat showed Friday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices rose 0.4 percent year-on-year in May, slightly slower than the 0.5 percent increase posted in April. The rate was expected to remain at 0.5 percent.
Similarly, consumer price inflation eased marginally to 0.5 percent from 0.6 percent a month ago. Prices were forecast to rise by 0.6 percent.
Month-on-month, harmonized and consumer prices dropped 0.1 percent, each. Both rates were expected to remain flat in May.
Core inflation, measured by HICP, was 0.8 percent, down from 1 percent in April. Italian HICP excluding energy advanced 0.6 percent from the same period of last year.
