BRAZIL: South Korea To Import Pork From The Country

(RTTNews) - South Korea will open its markets to Brazilian pork and has already authorized imports from plants of four companies - Aurora, BRF, Pamplona and Seara - located in the southern state of Santa Catarina.

Santa Catarina is the only region in Brazil that is certified as free from foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination by the World Health Organization (WHO). That was a pre-requisite from the South Korean government to import the Brazilian product.

The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), an industry group, said that negotiations with South Korea took ten years and that the country has the potential to become a large consumer of the local pork.

South Korea is the fourth largest importer of pork products in the world. In 2017, the country bought more than 645 thousand tons from various countries.
