BRAZIL: Retail Sales Rise Three Times More Than Expected In June
(RTTNews) - Retail sales in Brazil rose 1.2% on month in June, or three times more than expected by analysts, according to the national statistics office. Data excludes vehicle and construction material sales.
Comparing to June 2016, retail sales in Brazil rose for the third consecutive month, at a 3% rate. That result was also better than the 1.9% increase forecast by market analysts. In the first half of 2017, retail sales in Brazil decreased 0.1% on year.
Six of the eight segments surveyed had positive sales performance in June compared to May: furniture and household appliances (+2.2%) and footwear (+5.4%). At the negative end were hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco (-0.4%) and equipment and supplies for office (-2.6%).
In the annual comparison, there were positive results across the board, with furniture and household appliances (+12.7%) leading the pack, followed by textiles, clothing, and footwear (+4.6%) and other articles for personal and domestic use (+4.3%).
