Wall Street Poised To Open In Negative Territory

(RTTNews) - The Fed Chair Jerome Powell's remarks might get attention on Thursday. Investors are keen on the details of the first phase of the deal between Israel and Hamas.

During the Asian trading session, the dollar index held steady. Gold edged lower, after hitting a new record high of $4,059.34 an ounce. Oil prices were up slightly in choppy trade.

Asian shares finished mostly up, while European shares are trading mixed.

Early signs from the U.S. Futures Index suggest that Wall Street might open in negative zone.

As of 8.15 am ET, the Dow futures were losing 5.00 points, the S&P 500 futures were at 0.00 points and the Nasdaq 100 futures were sliding 11.75 points.

The U.S. major averages finished broadly up on Wednesday. The tech-heavy Nasdaq led the way higher, jumping 255.02 points or 1.1 percent to 23,043.38, while the S&P 500 climbed 39.13 points or 0.6 percent to 6,753.72. The narrower Dow ended the day little changed, edging down 1.20 points or less than a tenth of a percent to 46,601.78.

On the economic front, the Jobless Claims for the week will be issued at 8.30 am ET. The consensus for initial claims is 235K.

Thirty-year Treasury Bond Auction will be held at 1.00 pm ET.

The Energy Information Administration or EIA's Natural Gas Report for the week will be released at 10.30 am ET. In the prior week, the gas stock was 53 bcf.

The Fed Balance Sheet for the week is scheduled at 4.30 pm ET. In the prior week, the Level was $6.587 trillion.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell will give welcome remarks before the Community Bank Conference hosted by the Federal Reserve Board at 8.30 am ET.

Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman will give opening remarks and participates in fireside chat before the Community Bank Conference hosted by the Federal Reserve Board at 8.35 am ET.

Fed Governor Michael Barr will speak on the economic outlook before an Economic Club of Minnesota luncheon at 12.45 pm ET.

San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly will participate in moderated conversation before the Silicon Valley Directors Exchange 6.40 pm ET.

Asian stocks ended mostly higher on Thursday. Chinese markets rallied. The benchmark Shanghai Composite index surged 1.32 percent to 3,933.97. Hong Kong's Hang Seng ended down 0.29 percent at 26,752.59.

Japanese markets soared. The Nikkei average jumped 1.77 percent to 48,580.44. The broader Topix index settled 0.68 percent higher at 3,257.77.
