Victim's Attorneys Drew, Cooper & Anding And Manly, Stewart & Finaldi Issue Notice Of Intent To File Claim Against Michigan State University And Dr. Larry Nassar In Alleged Sex Abuse Case.
LANSING, Mich., Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorneys representing 15 alleged victims of former Michigan State University professor and USA Gymnastics team physician, Dr. Larry Nassar, filed a Notice of Intent to File Claim against Nassar and Michigan State University.
According to the Notice, "The claims arise out of multiple instances of sexual assault and battery, molestation, and harassment of our clients by Dr. Lawrence Nassar, an employee/agent/representative, etc. of Michigan State University from 1996 to as recent as 2015. Specifically, the claims arise out of Dr. Nassar's digital penetration of our clients without proper notice, gloves, lubricant, or chaperones under the guise of providing medical care and treatment at his office at Michigan State University. It is our belief Dr. Nassar used his position of trust and confidence in an abusive manner."
Last week Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette charged Nassar with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13. The charges allege that Nassar repeatedly assaulted a girl between 1998 and 2005, beginning when she was six-years old. The charges carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Nassar pleaded not guilty to the charges and bail was set at $1,000,000.
"We intend to demonstrate that Michigan State University received complaints regarding Dr. Nassar and failed to properly investigate, discipline and sanction Dr. Nassar for his abusive and harassing conduct. Title IX and other federal and state laws require Michigan State University to protect students and others from harassment and sexual assault by their employee, Dr. Nassar. They must be held accountable," said victim's attorney Stephen Drew, a partner in Drew, Cooper & Anding.
Jane "LM" Doe, a nationally ranked NCAA champion gymnast and former member of the United States women's national team previously filed suit alleging that U.S.A Gymnastics team physician Larry Nassar sexually assaulted and abused her while she was training at the U.S.A. Gymnastics team training center at Károlyi Ranch, owned by famed coaches Béla and Márta Károlyi.
A lawsuit by Jane "JD" Doe, a medalist at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, alleged that Nassar, while serving as the U.S.A. Gymnastics team doctor, groped and fondled the victim's private parts under the guise of performing osteopathic therapy.
Both of these athletes are represented by Manly, Stewart & Finaldi.
"The allegations contained in our Notice of Intent to File Charges, combined with the charges filed against Dr. Nassar by the Michigan Attorney General, point to a long history of alleged sexual misconduct by Dr. Nassar which Michigan State University had a duty to prevent. I strongly urge any other alleged victims of Dr. Nassar to come forward and give information to the authorities and consider filing complaints," said victim's attorney John Manly, a partner in Manly, Stewart & Finaldi.
