Ventura, Calif. Resident Wins the Cintas "Shred Your Debt” Contest

Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), a leader in secure document management, today announced Amy Van Gundy from Ventura, Calif. is the grand prize winner of the first "Shred Your Debt” Contest. Hosted by Cintas, the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and Equifax, the contest was designed to encourage financial responsibility during Financial Literacy Month in April. As the winner, Van Gundy will receive $2,000 to help pay down her debt and a trip to Atlanta to receive financial coaching from a nationally recognized personal finance expert.

During April, more than 200 consumers took the pledge through the Cintas contest website to become financially responsible and entered the contest to jumpstart their commitment. To qualify, contestants had to describe their financial situation and why they deserve to win. After narrowing down the submissions to 10 finalists, a panel of judges from Cintas Document Management, the NFCC and Equifax selected Van Gundy as the grand prize winner. Van Gundy and her husband began married life with debt, but it quickly spiraled out of control when their twins were born prematurely with cerebral palsy. Since then, medical bills have been piling up and her husband recently was laid off. After realizing she was being consumed with debt, Ventura and her family moved in with her in-laws and enrolled in credit counseling.

"I am excited to win the Cintas Shred Your Debt Contest and look forward to receiving the educational resources and $2,000 to help my family and me become debt free,” said Van Gundy. "My pledge is to be able to provide for my family, afford the medical bills, treatments and equipment my sons need and have a house of our own someday.”

To ensure long-term success, Van Gundy will also receive free additional financial counseling sessions from SurePath Financial Solutions, a NFCC Member Agency. She will also receive Equifax’s Debt Wise™ product, a do-it-yourself resource that enables users to prioritize their bills and save money on interest to get out of debt faster and a copy of the best-selling author David Bach’s new book, "Debt Free for Life.”

In addition to the contest, Cintas, the NFCC and Equifax will host several more "Shred Your Debt” events throughout the country to enable community members to securely shred personal documents such as credit cards, bill statements or even their worst purchase as a demonstration of their commitment to become debt free. The first event will take place at the Consumer Credit Counseling Service in Wilmington, N.C. on Saturday, April 30. One of Cintas’ secure, mobile shredding trucks will be on-site to safely destroy documents using its SmartShred™ process. All of the shredded paper will then be recycled into secondary paper products such as paper towels and tissue to help protect natural resources.

"We are excited to award Amy with the prize package and are thankful to all of the contestants that participated,” said Brittney Kirk, Marketing Associate of Cintas Document Management. "We are pleased to have partnered with the NFCC and Equifax during Financial Literacy Month to help community members pledge financial responsibility and protect their personal information.”
