Unum Group Q1 Profit Rises - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Unum Group (UNM) Wednesday reported first-quarter profit of $228.9 million or $0.88 per share, down from $212.6 million or $0.79 per share in the same period last year.

Operating income for the quarter was $225.7 million or $0.87 per share, up from $215.6 million or $0.80 per share in the year-ago quarter. On average, 15 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.85 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Revenues decreased to $2.61 billion from $2.62 billion last year. Analysts expected revenues of $2.61 billion.

Looking ahead to the fiscal 2014, the company anticipates adjusted earnings growth in the range of five percent to ten percent.
