United Microelectronics Q3 Profit Halves - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Semiconductor foundry United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) Wednesday reported a decline in third-quarter net profit attributable to stockholders to NT$1.72 billion or US$1.29 billion, from NT$3.47 billion last year.

Earnings per share decreased to NT$0.14 from NT$0.28 in the same quarter last year. Earnings per ADS for the quarter declined to US$0.023 from US$0.046 a year ago.

However, net operating revenues for the quarter grew 4.5 percent to NT$39.39 billion or US$1.29 billion, from NT$37.70 billion or US$1.24 billion in the same quarter last year.

Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, the company anticipates wafer shipments to decrease 4 to 5 percent sequentially, mainly due to softening of wafer demand from customers, partly due to continued softness in entry and mid-end smartphones.
