TSX Barely Budges Despite Bull Market Oil --canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks were flat Thursday despite strong energy stocks.
Valeant continued to make headlines after earning ratings upgrades earlier in the week.
Valeant (VRX.TO) said it has obtained the requisite lender approval for an amendment to its credit facility.
The company expects to close the amendment next week, subject to customary closing conditions. Shares fell 3.3 percent.
Meanwhile, women's fashion retailer Aritzia aims to make its Toronto IPO.
Energy stocks rallied along with crude oil prices amid speculation that Saudi Arabia is nearing a deal with Russia to curb production.
Sept. WTI oil was up $1.43, or 3.1%, to settle at $48.22/bbl on Nymex, the highest since July 1, in bull market territory.
December gold climbed $8.40, or 0.6 percent, to $1,357.20 an ounce.
Silver was up 9.2 cents, or 0.5 percent, to $19.74 an ounce.
