Toyota Motor May Worldwide Production Rises

(RTTNews) - Japan's Automaker Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) said that its worldwide production for the month of May 2016 rose 11.2 percent to 837,775 units. Production in Japan rose 10.6 percent, production outside Japan was up by 11.5 percent.

Total sales in Japan, comprising Toyota, Daihatsu and Hino, for the month increased by 9.7 percent to 151,375 units.

Separately, Toyota Motor Corp. said it has recalled about 3.4 million vehicles to repair separate flaws involving leaky fuel tanks and curtain air-bag inflators that may crack and injure occupants.

The larger fuel tank recall affects 2.87 million vehicles worldwide, including Prius hybrids and Corolla compacts. Toyota said fuel emissions-control canisters could crack and result in leaks when the vehicles have full tanks of gas.
