Calorie-Burning Tips From Bally Total Fitness Personal Trainer
Nikki Kimbrough For Those Who Lust for Chocolate On Valentine's Day

Every Valentine's Day, Americans express affection by bestowing gifts on loved ones, such as flowers, jewelry and of course, chocolate. According to the American Boxed Chocolate Manufacturers Association, 80 percent of women and 75 percent of men would like to receive a gift of boxed chocolates. However, not everything that is good to eat is good for you - the average 16-ounce box of chocolate contains 2,200 calories and would require a 150-pound person to run for 200 minutes at 12 minutes per mile to burn the calories.
"While chocolate is a delicious treat, many people ignore that it is also very high in calories. Think about it, just five bite size pieces of chocolate is equal to eating two slices of thin crust pizza," said Nikki Kimbrough, personal trainer at Bally Total Fitness. "As with anything, enjoy chocolate in moderation and find time to exercise or you'll be working off this year's chocolate treats long after Valentine's Day is over."
Below is a list of favorite chocolate candies and the exercises needed to burn off the calories (for a 150-pound person):

-- Solid Chocolate - For every two solid chocolate candies (approx 75 calories each), do 15 minutes of jumping jacks at a vigorous pace (burns 10 calories/min) or square dance for 30 minutes (burns 5 calories/min)

-- Chocolate Covered Caramel - For every four chocolate covered caramels (approx 40 calories each), play frisbee for 40 minutes (burns 4 calories/min) or rock climb for 18 minutes (burns 9 calories/min)

-- Chocolate Nuts - For every 1/2 cup of chocolate covered nuts (approx 210 calories per 1/4 cup), play basketball for 42 minutes (burns 10 calories/min) or downhill ski for 53 minutes (burns 8 calories/min)

-- Chocolate Covered Cherries - For every three chocolate covered cherries (approx 60 calories each), jog for 18 minutes (burns 10 calories/min) or mop the floor for 45 minutes (burns 4 calories/min)
