T-Mobile, Dish, Comcast Among Big Winners In FCC Wireless Bid
(RTTNews) - The Federal Communications Commission, or the FCC, announced the results of the $19.8 billion Spectrum bid for mobile use. According to the FCC, T-Mobile (TMUS), Dish Network (DISH) and Comcast (CMCSK, CMCSA) were among the largest bidders in the Government's wireless carriers auction.
While T-Mobile won the largest number of licenses spending $8 billion, Dish came in second, after committing $6.2 billion, followed by Comcast with $1.7 billion spent.
A total of 50 winning bidders won 70 MHz of licensed spectrum nationwide. A total of 14 MHz of spectrum is available for unlicensed use and wireless microphone, the FCC noted. On a nationwide basis, 70 MHz is the most mobile broadband ever auctioned below 1GHz by the FCC.
