Statement by Minister Duncan on Canada's First Medal at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, congratulates Canada's first medal winner at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea, March 10, 2018 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I congratulate Mollie Jepsen on winning Canada's first medal today at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

Jepsen, from West Vancouver, British Colombia made her bronze medal podium finish in the women's para alpine downhill standing event.

At her first Paralympic Games, Mollie, 18, showed the world on the first morning of competition in PyeongChang why she's considered one of Canada's brightest young athletes. She also recently had a triple medal performance at the World Cup Final in Kimberley B.C. in February.

This first medal marks a very promising start for Canada. Today, Mollie has proven once again that Canada is a leading sport nation that supports our athletes in achieving excellence.

We can be proud of Team Canada, which has the strength to bring the entire country together. Let's continue to support them every step of the way.

I commend the Canadian Paralympic Committee for its outstanding work in preparing our athletes, and I wish our Canadian Paralympic Team much more success as the competition continues in PyeongChang.
