'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Crosses $1 Bln Sales Globally

(RTTNews) - Market researcher Rentrak (RENT) said that Disney's 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' demolishes more records as it hits the $1 billion in worldwide sales in 12 days, faster in than any other film in box office history and also became the fastest film to hit $500 million in North America in a record 10 days.

Rentrak's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian said, "Like the Millennium Falcon shifting into hyper-drive, Disney's 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' demolishes more records as it hits the $1 billion mark in just 12 days, faster in than any other film in box office history and also became the fastest film to hit $500 million in North America in a record 10 days. China is well-represented with two titles in the second and third spots respectively with the debut of 'Devil and Angel (E Gun Tian Shi)' followed by 'Mojin: The Lost Legend' in its second weekend."

The Walt Disney Co. film took in $153.52 million at U.S. and Canadian theaters in its second weekend, Rentrak Corp. said Sunday in a statement.
