Shmoop Goes Behind the Scenes with New Guides to Superhero Movies

LOS ALTOS, Calif., Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- According to Chinese zodiac, 2018 is the year of the dog. But according to the box office, 2018 was the year of the superhero. Hollywood released what felt like a new superhero movie every other day, with a few more still to come in these last weeks of the year.

Black Panther broke records and movie-goers' minds. Avengers: Infinity War took 2.5 hours to end on the most depressing cliffhanger of all time. Deadpool 2 hit the silver screen with twice the snark, twice the comedic violence, and enough cursing to make Captain America blush.

Shmoop (https://www.shmoop.com), a digital publisher known for its award-winning Test Prep and love of super-powered crime-fighters, has released guides to some of the most popular superhero movies of all time. Shmoop's selection includes everything from classics like the 1989 Batman and The Avengers to the kid-friendly, animated world of The Incredibles.

Each guide delivers in-depth analysis of the characters, plot, and behind-the-scenes details like production design and soundtrack. Need a refresher on where Avengers: Age of Ultron ended before you (finally) watch the third Avengers: Infinity War? Shmoop has that covered. Wondering what it is about the Incredibles theme song, "Glory Days," that's kept it stuck your head since 2004? Shmoop dives into that. Want to compare Jack Nicholson's and Heath Ledger's performances of the Joker? Shmoop explores that, too. (Spoiler: the consensus is that they're both totally excellent.)

These movie guides are a fan favorite of one of Shmoop's biggest fans: founder David Siminoff. His superpower toolbox includes a BA in English from Stanford University, an MFA from the USC School of Cinema and Television, and several years of first-hand experience working in Hollywood. "Studying film can be a great way to engage students and bring traditional school subjects like literature and mythology to life," says Siminoff. "Who wouldn't enjoy unpacking the way Thor's story parallels other hero-to-zero-to-hero sagas like Odysseus' in The Odyssey?"

Shmoop is ready to give class movie day a whole new meaning.

For aspiring film buffs out there, Shmoop also offers online courses such as Film Studies (an ACE CREDIT® recommended course), Literature in the Media, and The Hero's Journey. Schools and districts can get bulk discounts on already-below-market rates by contacting sales(at)shmoop.com.
