Samsung Unveils Galaxy S5 With Fingerprint Sensor
(RTTNews) - Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (SSNNF.PK, SSNLF.PK) on Monday premiered the latest version of its flagship phone, the Galaxy S5, with a bigger screen, fingerprint-sensor and a heart-rate monitor, as the South Korean-giant tries to maintain its position as the world's number one smartphone seller.
Unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Galaxy S5 sports a 5.1 inch super AMOLED full HD screen with a 16-megapixel rear camera and runs on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. The company, however, did not provide pricing details of the phone. Galaxy S5 will be available on April 11 and will be rolled out to 150 countries.
Samsung has unveiled its latest device at a time when it faces slowing profit and revenue growth as premium high-end smartphone market has almost saturated while strong competition from Chinese manufacturers grow in the low-and mid-range phones.
Inside the hood, Galaxy S5 is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip processor and 2 GB RAM. The phone has internal storage capacity options of 16GB and 32GB, which can be expanded up to 128GB with micro SD card.
Imitating Apple's iPhone 5S, the Galaxy S5 has a built-in fingerprint sensor with which users can unlock their phones by fingerprint scan. Users can also use the fingerprint sensor to authorize PayPal payments.
Samsung claims the Galaxy S5 will felicitate faster download speeds as it can combine Wi-Fi and LTE, which they call Download Booster. Galaxy S5 also boasts of being water and dust resistant, as the company claims it can withstand 30 minutes in a meter-deep water. The company has also given extra focus on fitness, as the smartphone features a heart rate monitor.
The new camera in Galaxy S5 also offers a faster auto-focus speed of up to 0.3 seconds, with the advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR) able to reproduce natural light and color under any circumstances.
The Galaxy S 5 runs on a 2,800 mAh battery, which is an improved one compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S4.
