Saguenay families will enjoy improved community and outdoor spaces for a better quality of life

Government of Canada invests nearly $120,000 in five community infrastructure improvement projects

SAINT-AMBROISE, QC, Dec. 19, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Saguenay families will enjoy improved recreational spaces and modernized community facilities thanks to $119,389 in financial assistance from the Government of Canada. Including the other sources of funding, total investments in the region's five community infrastructure improvement projects exceed $278,000.

The contributions were announced today by David Lametti, Member of Parliament for LaSalle–Émard–Verdun and Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

The non-repayable contributions were awarded to the Municipality of Larouche and the following organizations: Association sportive Ste-Marie Inc., Centre communautaire de Saint-Charles-de-Bourget, Association Chasse et Pêche Martin-Pêcheur Inc. and Corporation du parc régional du lac Kénogami.

The funding has been granted through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300 million fund that was established to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary through investments in community spaces that bring Canadians together. Up to $63.5 million of this amount will be invested in Quebec.

Municipality of Larouche (website in French only)

Non-repayable contribution of $50,000 out of a total investment of $130,000

 

The purpose of the project is to improve the Larouche community centre. More specifically, CED's contribution will go toward the plans and specifications, reroofing work, window replacement and heating system upgrade.

 

The community centre houses many organizations and is used for social, sports and cultural activities enjoyed by the municipality's 1480 residents. The community hall in the centre seats up to 120 people.

Centre communautaire de Saint-Charles-de-Bourget

Non-repayable contribution of $25,777 out of a total investment of $51,553

 

The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the skating rink in the Municipality of Saint-Charles-de-Bourget (website in French only). The work involves changing the boards and fences and installing a door for the players and a service door.

 

The Centre communautaire de Saint-Charles-de-Bourget is a non-profit organization whose mission is to organize community, sociocultural and recreational activities for the residents of Saint-Charles-de-Bourget and to manage the municipal skating rink.

Association sportive Ste-Marie Inc.

Non-repayable contribution of $16,860 out of a total investment of $35,280

 

The project involves the rehabilitation and expansion of the reception building in the ZEC du Lac-de-la-Boiteuse (website in French only) area. More specifically CED's contribution will be used to make the place safer and more attractive by repairing the reception building, refurbishing the cladding, insulating the floor and installing a shower for the clientele.

 

The Association sportive Ste-Marie manages the Lac-de-la-Boiteuse zone d'exploitation contrôlée (ZEC), which was entrusted to it by Quebec's ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs. Its mission involves overseeing wildlife management, harvesting and conservation, and facilitating user access for recreational activities (hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, etc.).

Association Chasse et Pêche Martin-Pêcheur Inc.

Non-repayable contribution of $13,991 out of a total investment of $27,982

 

The project consists in improving access to Lac Guimond (Saint-Germain sector) within the ZEC Martin-Valin (website in French only). The work will make the place safer and more attractive and includes adding a dock and outdoor furniture, and improving the parking lot and lake access road.

 

The Association Chasse et Pêche Martin-Pêcheur manages the zone d'exploitation contrôlée (ZEC), which was entrusted to it by Quebec's ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs. Its mission involves overseeing wildlife management, harvesting and conservation, and facilitating user access for recreational activities (hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, etc.).

Corporation du parc régional du lac Kénogami (website in French only)

Non-repayable contribution of $12,761 out of a total investment of $33,522

 

The project consists in improving the hiking trail in the parc régional du lac Kénogami. More specifically, the project involves rebuilding the bridges and a stairway, changing the trail location in various wetlands, clearing the brush, extending the trail and upgrading the posters and signage on the site.

 

The Corporation du parc régional du lac Kénogami is a non-profit organization mandated to promote the park and plan and coordinate its development. Outdoor enthusiasts have access to many activities and infrastructures: hiking, snowshoeing, canoeing, kayaking, a suspension bridge and various types of accommodation.
