Report: SoftBank In Takeover Talks With Charter

(RTTNews) - SoftBank Group is "definitely" in merger talks with Charter Communications (CHTR), according to the New York Post.

"They definitely are talking," the source said reported the Post.

The merger talks between SoftBank and Charter may not be advanced, however, high-level executives have been included in the talks, according to the report.

The Japanese firm's CEO Masayoshi Son apparently re-approached Charter after an earlier attempt in July failed.

SoftBank in July had attempted to acquire Charter, however, Charter rejected the offer, saying "We understand why a deal is attractive for SoftBank, but Charter has no interest in acquiring Sprint. We have a very good [mobile] relationship with Verizon and intend to launch wireless services to cable customers next year."

Meanwhile, SoftBank-owned Sprint has discontinued its merger talks with T-Mobile and is now considering other options.
