EXPERT ALERTS:
The ACA and AHCA: Repeal, Replace, and Impact on Employer-Based Health Plans
Ron E. Peck
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
The Phia Group, Braintree, Mass.
Healthcare reform continues to be a hot topic, though what that means varies from person to person. Regardless of your view on healthcare, it cannot be denied that the majority of Americans have, and continue to receive, healthcare through their employer. How the cost of healthcare, existing and new laws, and other innovative methodologies impact employer based health plans, and the evolving nature of these plans -- today and in the future -- are topics Peck is available to discuss: "In the United States of America, our lawmakers have and continue to focus entirely on 'who' pays for healthcare. Ensuring every American has health insurance has not, and will not, solve the problem. The issue is that healthcare costs too much in this country. The only solution will come from a combination of consumerism on the part of patients -- who must care about the cost of care they receive -- creative processes implemented by payers, and more efficient, cost-effective providers. The industry must solve the problem of cost, as lawmakers seem unable or unwilling to challenge those who game the system, and dip deeply into what is perceived to be the bottomless pocket that is insurance."

'13 Reasons Why' Worries Mental Health Experts
Dr. John Huber
Clinical Forensic Psychologist
"'13 Reasons Why' glorified suicide, which is a huge trigger. They make suicide a reasonable solution and an easy way out. The program is not appropriate for teenagers unless they watch with their parents and stop and start it every few minutes to talk about the issues.'
Based in Austin, Dr. Huber is the chairman for Mainstream Mental Health, a non-profit organization that brings lasting and positive change to the lives of individuals that suffer from mental health issues. A mental health professional for more than 20 years, Dr. Huber is a practitioner with privileges at two long-term acute care hospitals. In addition, he is a professor and teaches undergraduate and graduate psychology at Texas State University.

Low Levels of Face-to-Face Social Contact Can Double Depression Risk
Dr. Frieda Birnbaum
Research Psychologist, Psychoanalyst
According to a study by the University of Michigan published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, replacing face-to-face contact with friends and family with emails, text messages and phone calls could double the risk of depression. Research on 11,000 adults found that those who meet friends and family at least three times a week are far less likely to suffer from depression. Individuals who had such contact just once every few months had an 11.5 per cent chance of later suffering from depressive symptoms two years later. Says Dr. Frieda: "For Millennials, face-to-face interaction may seem like the 'old way' of doing things; however, this kind of interaction is crucial for a person's wellbeing. Face-to-face interaction allows individuals to see each other for who they are without the false photographic and profile enhancements found on social media. Today, our culture is over-stimulated and more isolated than ever before despite all the ways that people can connect through technology. People should get out more, meet other people and embrace each other's company, for that is a staple mark of the human experience."
Based in the New York metro area, Dr. Birnbaum is author of "What Price Power: An In-Depth Study of the Professional Woman in a Relationship" and "Life Begins at 60: A New View on Motherhood, Marriage, and Reinventing Ourselves." She's an expert on depression, women's issues, and attaining happiness.

More Millennials Than Ever Are Living at Home and for Longer Stretches
Pavlina Osta
Millennial Commentator
According to a Pew Research Center analysis, the share of young adults living in their parents' home continues to rise. Today's young adults are also more likely to be at home for an extended stay compared with previous generations of young adults who resided with their parents. Says Osta: "'Adulting' is a term the millennial generation came up with. They don't want to go out into the real world or do adult like things -- even doing their laundry and putting it away right away is a known success for any millennial. It makes sense they would want to stay home longer."
Osta is a sought-after millennial commentator booked to share her "keep it real" view on all things political or pop culture. Recognized for her swift and fun interviewing style, this engaging radio and talk show host has been landing her own interviews with the world's notable superstars, athletes, and newsmakers on and off the red carpet since the ripe young age of 11.
