Phoenix Technologies Gives Microsoft Embedded Developers Advanced Security Framework to Combat Piracy, Malware Company Delivers Unmatched Level of Protection that Locks Applications to a Specific Device; Innovations on Display at Mobile & Embedded DevCon
Software developers targeting the largest segment of the hardware industry -- embedded devices that run Microsoft(R) operating systems -- can rely on a powerful arsenal of tools from Phoenix Technologies(R) Ltd. (Nasdaq:PTEC) to create applications that are more secure for the user and the manufacturer alike.
Phoenix's latest security solutions for engineers, developers and business managers will be on display in Booth 312 at the Microsoft Mobile & Embedded DevCon 2005 (MEDC 2005), an annual industry event being held today through May 12. Phoenix, an MEDC 2005 silver sponsor, will discuss its unique approach for identity management at the device level, which improves end user security and allows developers to protect against unauthorized use of applications once they're deployed on devices.
Phoenix's identity management security framework is built on top of TrustedCore(TM), its flagship firmware for the reliable, secure and flexible operation of embedded and mobile devices. It includes the Phoenix Security Software Developer Kit (SDK), which enables software application developers to take advantage of TrustedCore ROM-based secure storage features. The SDK allows application vendors to integrate Phoenix security technology, including the Phoenix TrustConnector(TM) device authentication software, into their software applications seamlessly to perform a wide array of security functions including content protection at the device level.
Developers can also take advantage of Phoenix CoreArchitect(TM), a flexible developer tool built on Microsoft's Visual Studio, to easily customize their offerings and speed time to market. The Phoenix FirstWare(TM) Recover Pro recovery software is also proving popular with embedded developers. As more and more embedded systems -- from casino games to industrial applications -- become networked, they become vulnerable to viruses, worms and malware. With Recover Pro's incremental image save and restore function, an operator can return the device to the state it was in before the infection, even if the operating system won't boot, with just a few keystrokes.
"As we talk to embedded systems makers around the world, we see a common desire for flexible tools that help them protect their intellectual property and improve the security experience for the device user," said Michael D. Goldgof, senior vice president and general manager of the Corporate Marketing and Products Division at Phoenix Technologies. "Using Phoenix Security SDK and TrustedCore software, mobile and embedded developers can essentially lock their content to a specific device, preventing unauthorized re-use on other devices."
