American College of Cardiology (ACC) Annual Meeting
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2005--Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG)(AEX:PHI) today unveiled new products and technologies specifically designed for the cardiology market to enhance patient care and comfort, as well as to increase imaging capabilities, improve interoperability and efficiency for clinicians. These new advanced technologies will be demonstrated at the 2005 American College of Cardiology (ACC) annual meeting March 6-8, 2005 (booth 1049).
In addition, Philips is participating in the Integrating the Health Enterprise (IHE) Pavilion as a Leadership-level supporter (booth 4563). IHE is an initiative led by healthcare professionals and industry groups to improve how computer systems share information. At the IHE Pavilion, Philips will showcase the latest workflow enhancements and multi-vendor data sharing capabilities of the Philips HaemoSphere monitoring system, Philips Allura Xper FD cardiovascular X-ray system, and Philips Xcelera cardiology information solution. Together these solutions improve productivity and speed up access to data, allowing faster clinical diagnosis and finalization of reports.
"Cardiac care requires solutions that leverage and combine best-in-class technology across the continuum of care," said John Steidley, vice president, diagnostic imaging, for Philips Medical Systems. "At this year's ACC, Philips will showcase advances in cardiovascular care by combining proven CT and CV X-ray diagnostic imaging technologies that aid and improve the detection and treatment of disease. In addition, Philips patient monitoring has incorporated wireless technology to further enhance patient information and monitoring capabilities to ensure uncompromised care and comfort. Today's healthcare market demands easy-to-experience solutions designed around our customers that improve the quality of care, and Philips is delivering through its advanced portfolio of cardiology systems."
Philips IntelliVue Telemetry System -- freedom of mobility through wireless cardiac monitoring
This wireless system enhances a patient's freedom to walk around or rest in bed comfortably while maintaining uninterrupted cardiac monitoring. The system includes Smart-Hopping(TM) technology, which minimizes interference and seeks out the strongest available signal to achieve seamless connection and clinical data transmission as patients move within the hospital. It is designed to co-exist with the hospital's existing wireless infrastructures.
The IntelliVue Telemetry System is part of Philips proven IntelliVue patient monitoring technology portfolio. The system operates on the IntelliVue Clinical Network, a framework for seamless information management and more flexible patient monitoring - all designed to increase clinical efficiency and improve patient outcomes. The IntelliVue Telemetry System's innovative functionality, such as the telemetry overview feature, links a patient's telemetry device and IntelliVue bedside monitor. A patient's telemetry waves and numerics are available on the beside monitor, along with other physiological data.
Additionally, the telemetry system locator feature helps to lower operational costs. Hospitals lose approximately 15 to 20 percent of patient-worn telemetry devices each year as patients transition from one unit to another. The device locator, which allows users to locate a missing transceiver by initiating a "page" from the IntelliVue Information Center, beeps at intervals until it is silenced.
Philips new 'fusion' technology and Comprehensive Cardiac Analysis application software simplify workflow
Also being demonstrated at ACC is a dramatic new fusion technology that allows 3D computed tomography (CT) images to be transferred to the Philips Allura Xper FD cardiovascular X-ray system. This may dramatically improve visualization and, therefore, treatment planning, for patients who need to undergo more invasive procedures such as stent placement.
In addition, Philips Comprehensive Cardiac Analysis (CCA) tool may help to simplify procedures and assessment for clinicians and improve diagnostic confidence. The software solution provides many new visualization tools aiming to substantially reduce the time and the complexity involved in a cardiac CT evaluation. The clinical advantages of Philips CVCT technologies allow computed tomography to better meet clinical needs, such as advanced stent planning, and bring new functionality to cardiovascular CT imaging. Based on total heart segmentation, Philips CCA delivers in-depth visualization of the entire coronary tree for more precise planning and treatment decisions.
Philips Allura Xper FD10/10 - extends cardiovascular X-ray portfolio
Philips will also introduce the newest member to the Allura Xper family of flat detector (FD) systems--the Allura Xper FD10/10. This biplane cardiovascular X-ray system is perfectly suited for a full range of applications, from interventional cardiology, electrophysiology to pediatric cardiology, including customized settings for each application.
Featuring Xper technology, the Philips Allura Xper FD10/10 delivers personalized workflow with Xper settings, where all preferred protocols can be pre-programmed. With Xper integration, images from other modalities-- MR, CT, ultrasound and EP mapping information-- can be reviewed in the exam room. It also integrates all the interventional tools clinicians need, such as Philips Allura 3D-CA, StentBoost, and Integris 3D-RA. Together, the systems provide high levels of image quality with Philips Xres image processing, while maintaining the lowest possible dose with Philips DoseWise.
Philips products recognized by leading design organization
Affirming Philips leadership in the design and manufacture of advanced and patient-friendly technologies, Philips recently received several prestigious iF design awards, which recognize designs that combine technological sense with user friendliness.
From the Philips Medical Systems division, Philips Allura Xper FD 10 and 20 CV X-ray systems, including interface, Philips Achieva Cylindrical MR and Philips CT Brilliance family of scanners were honored for outstanding design quality by the International Forum Design, a leading international design institute based in Hanover, Germany.
