NWEA Appoints Abby Javurek as Senior Director of Large Scale Assessment Solutions

PORTLAND, Ore., June 26, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- NWEA, the not-for-profit provider of assessment solutions, today announced the appointment of Abby Javurek as the organization's new Senior Director of Large Scale Solutions, effective July 23.

The previous Director of the Division of Accountability Systems for the South Dakota Department of Education (DOE) and a national advocate for meaningful and equitable assessment, Javurek will be responsible for leading the organization's strategic efforts across all aspects of product management for large scale assessment solutions to create solutions that are customer-centered, comprehensive, and supportive of the NWEA mission and market needs.

Javurek brings extensive experience in formative and summative assessment, K-12 and higher education accountability systems, and data analysis to her role at NWEA. As Director of the Division of Accountability Systems for the South Dakota DOE, she oversaw the offices of Assessment; Certification; Accreditation; and Data Management. Javurek is recognized for her work leading the state of South Dakota's transition to next generation assessment; the overhaul of the state educator licensure system; the development of the state's ESSA plan; and the creation of interactive school report cards. Javurek is also the outgoing chair of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium's Executive Committee, for which she served in an executive leadership capacity since 2015.

Javurek holds Masters degrees in Sociology and Industrial Engineering, and a certification in Systems Engineering from New Mexico State University, and will soon complete a Ph.D. in Political Science with an emphasis on Public Education Policy at the University of South Dakota.
