CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 2005--North Lake Wines, a division of Constellation Wines U.S., is launching Kelly's Revenge -- a new, quintessentially Australian wine brand targeted to younger consumers drawn to fresh brands with strong personalities.
Kelly's Revenge offers three richly flavored wines: Shiraz, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon -- Australia's top three varietals. The grapes are sourced from South Eastern Australia, the country's leading premium wine appellation. Australia is now the number one importer of wine into the United States, with an amazing 40% market share and an annual growth rate topping 40%. Shiraz, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are among the fastest-growing imported varietals.
Why have Australian wines become so popular with American wine lovers? "Three words," says North Lake Wines Marketing Director Bethany DiSanto: "fruit, value, attitude."
In sun-drenched Australia, DiSanto points out, grapes ripen easily and develop the rich fruit flavors American wine drinkers love. And because Australia produces far more wine than its 20 million citizens can consume, it exports most of it, at very attractive prices.
"Australian brands also boast memorable names, colorful packaging, and a light-hearted attitude that make them approachable and easy to understand and enjoy," DiSanto notes.
Kelly's Revenge Shiraz, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted for the American market from choice South Eastern Australia vineyards, are rich and boldly flavored, with cutting-edge packaging and messaging.
"The Kelly's Revenge name evokes Australia's notorious 19th-century outlaw Ned Kelly, who was legendary in his day," says DiSanto. "After a hard day's work, a glass of Kelly's Revenge helps consumers regain their sense of independence and perspective and remember that living well is the best revenge."
Bottled in 750 ml and 1.5L formats, Kelly's Revenge capitalizes on the soaring popularity of affordably priced Australian wines. The brand's striking package features a unique icon character and irreverent back label copy encouraging consumers to take revenge on life's little pressures. These themes are echoed in colorful neckers, shelf talkers, case cards and posters featuring the Kelly's Revenge icon and the tag line "Are You Up For It?"
Kelly's Revenge launches nationally in May 2005. Suggested retail prices are $5.99 per 750 ml and $10.99 per 1.5 liter.
Kelly's Revenge is distributed by North Lake Wines, a division of Constellation Wines U.S., which is part of Constellation Wines, the world's largest wine business, an operating division of Constellation Brands, Inc. (NYSE:STZ) (NYSE:STZ.B) ("CBI"). Constellation Wines U.S. encompasses three of CBI's U.S. wine businesses: Canandaigua Wine Company, Pacific Wine Partners, and North Lake Wines. Leading brands include Alice White, Arbor Mist, Cook's, Covey Run, Inglenook, Talus Collection, Turner Road and Vendange.
