Nissan Expands Recalls Of Cars With Defective Air Bags

(RTTNews) - Japanese car maker Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. (NSANY.PK) is recalling more than 226 thousand additional cars with potentially defective air bags made by Japanese parts supplier Takata Corp., as the faulty air bag inflaters could cause the bags to rupture.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that Nissan is recalling certain models of its Infiniti, Maxima, Pathfinder and Sentra released between years 2002 to 2004.

The problem with the airbags is that during a crash the inflator could rupture causing metal fragments to strike and seriously injure the occupants.

The recall of 226,326 cars now brings the total recall by Nissan to 664,628. Nissan intends to start the recall on August 11. Dealers will replace inflators at no charge, Nissan said.
