Michigan's Milan County School District Implements PolyVision's TS Series Interactive Whiteboard to Enhance Students' Educational Experience

ATLANTA, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- PolyVision Corporation, a Steelcase Company and the world leader in visual communication products today announced that its TS Series Interactive Whiteboard has been rolled out into the Milan County School District, which serves 2,200 students and 140 teachers in southeast Michigan. Every classroom in the school district (K-12) has the technology at its fingertips.

Milan School District chose PolyVision's TS Interactive Whiteboard to further enhance the creative learning environment where students can be actively engaged in the learning process. Milan found what it needed in the TS Interactive Whiteboard and much more as the technology is revolutionizing the way teachers engage and inspire students. With the use of streaming video, sound effects, and homework problem-solving at the touch of a single button, the TS Interactive Whiteboard provides teachers and students with a multi-media classroom tool that they enjoy using and learning from in an exciting new way.

"Instruction with a PolyVision interactive whiteboard is the best way of teaching without relying on books or worksheets. As technology prevails in our world, we wanted to incorporate it by teaching students using the Internet and streaming video," explains William Matley, assistant superintendent of Milan Schools. "It's like teaching in the classroom of the future which keeps students stimulated while extending their education."

The interactive whiteboard technology is easily incorporated into all curriculums and allows teachers to instruct in innovative ways. For example, in Algebra, the whiteboard becomes a calculator, while in History, the whiteboard becomes an encyclopedia. The whiteboard also allows teachers to capture their notes, which can be printed, e-mailed, faxed, or uploaded to the Internet.

"PolyVision's interactive whiteboard gives students the opportunity to focus more on content rather than worry about note taking," Matley said. "We have seen a significant improvement in students' comprehension of the materials. An added bonus is that the whiteboard technology decreases teachers' time involved with paperwork and affords more opportunity to create engaging lesson plans."

In addition, the school district has also integrated RM Easiteach(R) interactive whole-class teaching software with the TS Interactive Whiteboards. RM Easiteach Software includes nine different software titles inspired by teachers and developed specifically for interactive whole-class teaching, making it even easier for teachers to create interactive lesson plans.

With PolyVision's interactive whiteboards in their classrooms, Milan's teachers now have the ability to write, save, print, stream cable TV, access the Internet, project from a DVD/VCR and display PowerPoint(R) presentations and more. The technology also allows parents to have instant access to the entire lesson presented during each class.

Matley adds, "The PolyVision TS Interactive Whiteboard is here to stay -- the students and teachers will never go back to the old way of learning and teaching."
