Mercedes Working On Drone Hive Delivery Van

(RTTNews) - Mercedes-Benz is working along with drone technology startup Matternet to make a futuristic delivery van which comes with drones attached to the roof to make deliver easy.

Mercedes has dubbed its futuristic van project-- Vision Van. The van features a mechanical shelving system that loads packages. The driver will get a notification where he needs to stop for a package delivery. Then the van's shelving system will push a package into a drone on the roof of the van, and the drone then will deliver it to the customer's door step.

Mercedes-Benz has made a "multi-million dollar" investment in Matternet, which has developed a completely autonomous drone, the Matternet M2.

"The other scenario is that you as the customer go on [something like the] Amazon website, see the option to have something delivered in an hour, and the system knows a Mercedez Benz van is nearby. The drone could depart from the Amazon delivery center, go to a van, and the driver hands the package off to you. This doesn't require any infrastructure," says Andreas Raptopoulous, the founder and CEO of Matternet.
