Encoding and Utility Storage
SAVVIS Communications (NASDAQ:SVVS), a leading global IT utility, today announced that MediaPass(R) Network, LLC http://www.MediaPass.net, the premier digital lifestyle destination, has chosen to deploy key elements of SAVVIS' Digital Content Services product suite.
Under the terms of the agreement, MediaPass will have access to SAVVIS' global Content Delivery Network (CDN), one of the largest in the world. In addition, SAVVIS' Content Submission Portal and Digital Studio Services will allow MediaPass to easily submit and verify delivery of digital content, have it encoded in real-time and access tools to enable them to manage, store, and update their media library in real-time.
MediaPass recently launched its music video download service for Windows Mobile-based devices, making it possible to watch music videos on portable handheld devices. The music video service, announced at this year's premier music industry event, South by Southwest 2005, delivers videos that can be played back on Windows Mobile-based Portable Media Centers and select Smartphones and Pocket PCs.
Available at www.mediapass.net/musicvideodownloads, the mobile download service allows MediaPass Music subscribers to download selected music videos free of charge for up to 30 days of usage. The service is delivering the latest content from popular artists such as Emma Bunton and Kate Ryan, as well as up-and-coming bands including Slunt, Submersed and The Comas.
Having established itself as one of the largest independent content provider networks in North America, MediaPass is uniquely positioned to extend its brand across all mediums including IPTV (Internet protocol television), which can offer digital TV services such as video on-demand and digital video recording over broadband networks.
"We are rapidly approaching a media landscape where content will be customized for each broadcast medium, so we needed a partner that is prepared to support the complex needs of our content providers today," said Daniel Harris, President & CEO of MediaPass. "We looked at several vendors, but SAVVIS was the only solution that delivered a turnkey, end-to-end content delivery network solution, and they back up those services with an outstanding industry reputation."
"MediaPass is a visible leader in the field of digital delivery for rich media content and their credible relationships with companies like Microsoft gives them a significant position in the industry," said Nathan Kerry, V.P. & General Manager for SAVVIS' Media & Entertainment division. "As their popularity increases, MediaPass can count on SAVVIS for a reliable, fully scalable content delivery solution that can grow with them."
SAVVIS' Digital Content Services provides an integrated set of services including content and digital rights management, live and on-demand streaming applications, transcoding services, content delivery, and traffic management solutions. These powerful tools enable the media and entertainment industry, and other industry verticals that use rich media in their business workflows, to deliver digital content to their customers in a flexible, cost-effective manner.
