    ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2005--

Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute Will Use Lawson Applications to Streamline Administration, Giving Staff More Time for Patient Care

Lawson Software (Nasdaq:LWSN) signed a multi-suite contract with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Lawson's second quarter of fiscal 2005, which ended Nov. 30, 2004. The Institute licensed Lawson's Financials, Human Resources and Healthcare Supply Chain Management suites and signed a services agreement with Lawson for system implementation and training.
The integrated Lawson applications will help the Institute more effectively manage growth and control supply costs, which will give employees more time and resources to focus on patients, research and education.
Based in Detroit, Mich., the Institute strives to prevent, detect and eradicate cancer. Its 1,200 staff care for 6,500 new patients each year and conduct 700 cancer-specific research programs and clinical trials, making the Institute one of the nation's leading cancer centers.
"The implementation of the Lawson system will not only facilitate standardization of business practices across the organization, but we also expect to reduce or eliminate paper from most of our current administrative tasks. The reduction on the reliance on paper forms should translate to greater speed, greater efficiency and increased organizational flexibility," said Richard Rauscher, chief information officer of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.
Specifically, the Institute will use the integrated system to automate and standardize business processes across departments and facilities. This will enable the Institute to, for example, shorten its time-to-hire cycle and improve financial reporting by eliminating manual, paper-based processes and redundant data entry. It also will help the Institute ensure supply availability and lower its overall supply costs. The e-Recruiting application within the Human Resources Suite will help improve recruitment rates for hard-to-fill clinical positions and free HR staff from time-consuming manual tasks to focus on more strategic recruiting initiatives.
"Resource optimization is critical as healthcare providers juggle rising supply costs, staff shortages and thin margins," said Angie Franks, vice president of market development, Lawson Software. "We provide the technology foundation from which healthcare executives can improve decision-making to drive best practices that deliver enhanced patient care and profitability."
Lawson serves more than 500 healthcare industry clients representing more than 4,500 facilities, including eight of the top 10 integrated delivery networks. The company also serves managed care systems, academic medical centers, hospitals, clinics, physician group practices, home healthcare, long-term care and other health services enterprises. Lawson solutions help healthcare organizations manage their business so they can focus on their patients, automate and streamline materials management for a better bottom line, and overcome the challenges of labor shortages.
