Kraft Foods Recalls About 96,000 Pounds Of Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners

(RTTNews) - Packaged food giant Kraft Foods Group, Inc. (KRFT) is recalling about 96,000 pounds of hot dogs as the products may mistakenly contain "Classic Cheese Dogs" in the "Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners" packages.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS said Sunday that the product labels of the Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners packages are incorrect, since they do not reflect the ingredients associated with the pasteurized cheese in the cheese dogs. The products were formulated with milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

According to the FSIS, the problem was discovered by a consumer who notified Kraft Foods on April 18, 2014. The company notified the USDA the following day regarding the issue.

Accordingly, Kraft Foods is recalling 16-ounce individual consumer packages of "Classic Wieners Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added" with a "use by date" of 16 June, 2014 and product code "044700000632".

The company is also recalling 16-ounce package cases of "Classic Cheese Dogs Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added, and Pasteurized Cheese Product" that were distributed to retailers, with use by date of 16 June, 2014 and case code "00447000005300".

The products were produced on March 2 and 3, 2014, and bear the establishment number "Est. 537H" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were distributed to Kraft distribution centers and in retail stores nationwide.

The USDA said it has classified the recall as Class I, implying a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

Kraft Foods and FSIS said they have not received reports of any adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. However, if any consumers are concerned about a reaction, they should contact a healthcare provider.

KRFT closed Thursday's trading at $56.91, up $0.18 or 0.32 percent on a volume of 2.50 million shares.
