TAUNTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 2005--
CyberDisplay SVGA ideal for mobile applications requiring high-resolution, full-color image
Kopin(R) Corp. (Nasdaq: KOPN), the leading provider of microdisplays for mobile consumer electronics, today announced the Kopin CyberDisplay(R) SVGA, which offers 800-x-600-x-3 color-dot resolution in a 0.59-inch diagonal package. Like the other members of the CyberDisplay product family based on Kopin's scalable color filter microdisplay architecture, the CyberDisplay SVGA is the world's highest-resolution transmissive active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) for its size.
The CyberDisplay SVGA produces vivid, realistic, full-color images, making it ideal for mobile devices requiring high resolution such as DVD players and games. Because the CyberDisplay SVGA is optimized for computer-generated graphics and text, it is especially well-suited for wearable computer applications such as browsing the Internet on the go or viewing a repair manual through an eyewear-mounted display. In addition, the sharp image of CyberDisplay SVGA will enable personal video eyewear products displaying realistic 3-D stereoscopic video.
"Today's video on the go applications require compact displays with very high resolution and low power consumption," said Dr. John C.C. Fan, Kopin's chairman and CEO. "Just as music lovers can carry 5,000 songs in their pocket, today's workers can carry an entire office's worth of information with them and summon the pertinent bit to a tiny display near their eye for private viewing. Gamers and movie viewers can likewise enjoy richer, full-color multimedia experiences than ever. We're in an unparalleled position to satisfy these new mobile video demands with the CyberDisplay SVGA, and we will continue to push the boundaries of size and resolution for our displays."
Built with nanotechnology, the CyberDisplay SVGA incorporates a patent-pending low-voltage architecture that allows interface voltage swings to be reduced to standard 3.3-volts for all digital control signals. The low-voltage architecture lowers the power consumption by the SVGA display to approximately 100mW. Each 15 x 15 um square full-color pixel comprises three primary-color dots, creating a total active array of 2,400-x-600 (1,440K) dots. The CyberDisplay SVGA can display 16 million colors and offers a power-saving sleep mode, an important battery-extending feature for mobile applications.
Available immediately, Kopin offers samples, reference designs and full technical support, buttressing customers' ability to quickly move their CyberDisplay-equipped products to market.
