Kidney Cancer is Discussed on "Information Matrix" with Laurence Fishburne
MIAMI, Nov. 3, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- An episode of "Information Matrix," hosted by Laurence Fishburne, set to air in 2019, will feature information about kidney cancer. Kidney cancer is one of the 10 most common cancers and occurs in both men and women. Kidney cancer predominately affects those older than the age of 45, but it can still occur in those who are younger. The risk in a lifetime for developing this type of cancer in men is about 1 in 48, and for women it's 1 in 83.
There have been a lot of advancements and news about kidney cancer in recent months. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recently updated its clinical practice guidelines for kidney cancer and talks about a new way to treat patients with advanced kidney disease. New approaches to kidney tumors could save patients from risky surgeries. Researchers have found a way to use CT imaging to determine if a tumor is benign or malignant, which typically has not been done until the tumor is removed. With reliable diagnoses of kidney tumors, doctors will be able to avoid the need for surgery in order to make a diagnosis. This will help reduce complications patients can face.
New research is also showing that high dose radiation therapy can be a safe and effective treatment for kidney cancer patients that only have one kidney. While surgery is usually an option to treat those who have renal cell carcinoma, the radiation therapy has become an alternative treatment for those who have the disease. The educational program will highlight these advances and stories of those working to battle the disease.
