Kaepernick Killing Chicken Wing Sales?
(RTTNews) - Poultry giant Sanderson Farms has blamed the national anthem protests in National Football League for its lower sales for the fourth-quarter and full year.
Sanderson Farms, which is one of the biggest chicken providers in the US, said that NFL protests involving players taking a knee during the national anthem have hurt the demand for chicken wings in restaurants.
"The NFL has hurt the wing stores," CEO Joe Sanderson Jr. said during the earnings call. "There's not as much traffic going through some of the wing places we service."
"The only thing puzzling me right now is wings," he said. "We've been talking to our wing customers and they're the ones that are telling us that they're seeing less traffic in their stores. They attribute that to the NFL."
Last month, pizza giant Papa John's CEO John Schnatter had blamed the protests by NFL players during the national anthem as the reason for its slowing sales growth.
