Joseph Baker Named CEO of ACCIONA Windpower North America

Acciona Windpower, a proven and trusted manufacturer of performance-focused wind turbine generators, announced today the appointment of Joseph (Joe) Baker to the position of CEO of ACCIONA Windpower North America. Baker will apply 30 years of experience in management within power technologies and sustainability-focused businesses and lead ACCIONA Windpower to meet aggressive goals for 2010 in turbine sales, production and domestic supply chain goals.

Baker comes to ACCIONA from ABB, Inc., a global leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. During his 15-year tenure at ABB, Baker helped the organization achieve its overall strategy of improving energy efficiency, grid reliability and industrial productivity for North American customers. He led ABB's Power Products and Power Systems Divisions Marketing initiative in North America, developing new and maximizing existing growth strategies throughout the region. Previous to ABB, Inc. Baker held senior and general management roles at Sumitomo Corporation of America, B/E Aerospace, Inc. and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

Baker will help ACCIONA Windpower expand the North American pipeline for its AW-1500, 1.5 MW turbine and prepare the company to begin producing the AW-3000, ACCIONA’s 3 MW wind turbine currently being prototyped. Baker will also oversee the company’s aggressive transition to a domestic supply chain which began with the ACCIONA Windpower’s establishment of U.S. turbine assembly two years ago in West Branch, Iowa. The company has gone from 0 to 63 percent of its wind turbine components being sourced from North American suppliers in the last two years, and under Baker’s direction, the company aims to source 90 percent of their bill of material domestically by the end of 2010.

"ACCIONA is a pioneer in development and sustainability with an ultimate goal of creating shareholder value through socially responsibility – Joe Baker shares this vision and these values. I am pleased to announce that after many months of searching nationwide for an executive with the background and skills necessary to aggressively drive the ACCIONA Windpower business forward in the North American market, we have found the right person,” said Peter Duprey, CEO of ACCIONA Energy North America. "Joe brings the perfect blend of technology, manufacturing and sales know-how to our turbine manufacturing business.”

"I am honored to join a business that not only has a high-performing, safe and reliable product but also has sustainability at the core of everything they do. Our work, and the cumulative work of our industry, will be part of the larger solution to meet some of our nation’s most crucial needs to create new jobs for skilled workers, combat climate change and create a new and more independent energy economy,” said Joe Baker.
