Iranian-American Women Inspire, Empower, Connect

NEW YORK, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The Iranian American Women's Foundation (IAWF), a not-for-profit entity, has selected New York City for its sixth Iranian American Women's Leadership Conference to be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013. The leadership conference is designed to "inspire, empower, connect" attendees with a star-studded line up of speakers and panelists who are amongst the most highly accomplished American women entrepreneurs and business leaders of Iranian descent who will educate and nurture the new generation of business leaders.

Desiree Akhavan  - Among the youngest speakers at the conference, Desiree Akhavan is the co-creator of the award-winning web series The Slope and has been featured as one of Filmmaker Magazine's 25 New Faces of Film as well as Out Magazine's 100 most Compelling People of the Year. 

Maryam Banikarim - Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Gannett, Maryam Banikarim is known for her boundless curiosity, ability to build dynamic teams and forge partnerships.  Her efforts have earned her a spot on numerous lists including The New York Post's "50 Most Powerful Women in NYC," & Fast Company's "Top 10 Disrupters."

Gisue Hariri - Cofounder & Principal Design Director of a multi-disciplinary design firm of Hariri & Hariri, Gisue Hariri is today amongst the most accomplished women in American design with a list of honors including the "Academy Award" for Architecture from American Academy of Arts and Letters, Induction to Design Hall of Fame, and Architectural Digest NEW AD100.

Behnaz Sarafpour - Prior to launching her own fashion collection in 2001, Behnaz Sarafpour worked with Richard Tyler, Narciso Rodriguez and Isaac Mizrahi.  In 2010, Behnaz was honored at the White House as a finalist for the Smithsonian's Copper Hewitt National Design Award, and joined the museum's jury in 2012.  Most recently, she was named the winner of the 2013 National Design Award for fashion.
