HP and OPNET Accelerate Delivery of Mobile Services for Telefonica Moviles Espana; New Integrated Offering Enhances Configuration and Performance Management

    Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

PALO ALTO, Calif. & BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 2005--HP (NYSE:HPQ) (Nasdaq:HPQ) and OPNET Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:OPNT) today announced that Telefonica Moviles Espana, S.A. -- the leading telecommunications operator in the Spanish market -- has selected a combined solution from the companies to forecast the impact and accelerate the delivery of new mobile services.
Telefonica Moviles will use HP OpenView operational management solutions and OPNET's SP Guru software to rapidly design and deploy advanced services over a new Multi-protocol Label Switching/Internet Protocol network in Spain.
The companies also announced an expanded line of HP-certified offerings that enhance configuration and performance management capabilities of system and network resources. These expanded solutions were showcased last month in Madrid at HP Software Universe, where OPNET received the HP OpenView Solution Alliance Achiever's Award. The award recognized OPNET for joint business success resulting from its product suite integration with HP's Infrastructure Management and Application Management Solutions.
"The availability of OPNET's enhanced HP-certified, multi-integration offering is aimed at delivering tightly coupled design, troubleshooting and management capabilities," said Todd DeLaughter, vice president and general manager, Management Software Business, HP. "This type of high-caliber solution will help enable IT organizations to improve the alignment of technical provisioning requirements across systems, networks and applications to meet business demands."
Product integrations available from HP and OPNET include the following:

-- System performance: For predictive capacity and performance planning, system workload data from HP OpenView Performance Agent data is imported into OPNET Guru products via HP OpenView Interconnect. This provides a smooth interface for capacity planning studies. The HP OpenView Interconnect interface is included with OPNET's new System Performance module for HP OpenView.

-- Network configuration and performance: For network change management, HP OpenView Network Node Manager topology and event information is compatible with the OPNET product suite. OPNET's NetDoctor technology provides expert validation of proposed configuration changes within OPNET Guru products. With OPNET's new Sentinel product line, NetDoctor analyses are fully automated, enabling regular network integrity and security audits of production networks. HP OpenView Performance Insight data supports predictive network analyses using OPNET's Guru products to identify future capacity requirements during the infrastructure planning process.

-- Application performance: For end-to-end application performance troubleshooting, HP OpenView GlancePlus server performance metrics feed diagnostics of multi-tier IP applications within OPNET's Application Characterization Environment (ACE). OPNET's ACE analyses can also be automatically activated by the HP OpenView Internet Services product, which monitors application service levels.

"Our multi-faceted integration with the HP OpenView products is unique in scope," said Marc Cohen, chief executive officer, OPNET. "We take advantage of HP OpenView's rich data sources that span network, system and application domains, and apply advanced analytics to create workflows that automate problem solving. As a result, customers can focus more on processes and business instead of tedious data collection and manual troubleshooting."
