Hitachi Data Systems Announces General Availability of Heterogeneous Replication for EMC, IBM, Hitachi Storage Systems Empowers Customers to Replicate Data to and from EMC and IBM Storage Systems Connected to the Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform
Continuing to demonstrate leadership in large-scale virtualization and asynchronous remote copy, Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today announced the general availability of Hitachi TrueCopy(TM) Remote Replication Software across EMC, IBM, and Hitachi storage systems externally attached to the Hitachi TagmaStore(TM) Universal Storage Platform.
"Hitachi TrueCopy has long been recognized as a solid and versatile data replication solution that supports both synchronous and asynchronous modes as well as IBM GDPS," said John Webster, senior analyst and founder, Data Mobility Group. "Now with the latest version of Hitachi TrueCopy software, the Universal Storage Platform delivers large-scale, robust virtualized heterogeneous asynchronous replication--providing a common management solution for geographically disparate enterprise data assets."
Leveraging the advanced controller-based virtualization capabilities of the Universal Storage Platform, Hitachi further extends its industry leadership in asynchronous replication technologies with today's announcement of TrueCopy heterogeneous replication. Customers can now replicate data to and from any storage systems attached to the Universal Storage Platform to any other Universal Storage Platform anywhere in the world--over any distance--with complete data integrity and security. This technology eliminates the need to run multiple storage-based replication services, as customers can now run all replication from the Universal Storage Platform, and experience cost savings based on single-system management.
"Customers are now faced with having to deal with multiple, isolated vendor-specific replication technologies for multiple storage products. This means administrators have to learn different user interfaces, different command sets, different policies and procedures--one management interface for Centera, another for CLARiiON, and a third for Symmetrix DMX--which significantly raises the cost of replication and creates potential for downtime and risk of not recovering from a disaster," said Hu Yoshida, chief technology officer, Hitachi Data Systems. "TrueCopy now enables customers to standardize on a single set of replication tools and a single storage management architecture across their heterogeneous storage environment. Hitachi has truly simplified storage management."
TrueCopy heterogeneous replication support is now available for the following storage systems: EMC Symmetrix DMX 800, 1000, 2000, 3000 and Symmetrix 3000, 5000 and 8000 series storage systems, EMC CLARiiON CX series storage systems, IBM FastT900/DS4000 and IBM TotalStorage ESS800 models. Hitachi Data Systems will be continually adding support for other storage systems.
"With TrueCopy running on the Universal Storage Platform customers can implement remote mirroring for their data that resides on expensive, high performance storage systems to lower cost systems for data protection and disaster recovery. The economic benefits of this can be quite compelling and enable customers to better protect their data," said Tony Asaro, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. "Additionally, business continuance takes on a whole new meaning with compliance regulations and litigation protection now in the forefront of issues that many customers are concerned with."
Quick Start Implementation Service for TrueCopy Now Available
The company's Global Solution Services organization also announced the introduction of the Quick Start Implementation Service for TrueCopy heterogeneous replication software. The service helps storage administrators deploy a customized configuration of TrueCopy Remote Replication Software in their environment. With this new offering, Hitachi Data Systems will provide each customer with a dedicated team to plan and manage the TrueCopy installation and implementation for heterogeneous environments, including the TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform.
