Heartland Profit Tops Estimates, Revenue Misses

(RTTNews) - Trucking company Heartland Express Inc (HTLD) on Tuesday reported second-quarter net earnings of $23.3 million or $0.27 per share compared with $26.5 million or $0.30 per share last year.

Revenues for the quarter were lower at $191.7 million compared with $226.8 million in the prior year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $0.26 per share on revenues of $203 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Operating ratio in the quarter was 81.4% compared with 82.1% a year ago.

Heartland Express operates as a short-to-medium haul truckload carrier of general commodities.

Shares of the company were trading at $19.91, up $0.64 or 3.32%, on the Nasdaq.
